Abbas Nawrozzadeh is an Associate Solicitor with the firm specialising in Criminal law. He represents both youths and adults being investigated by the police for all Criminal offences. He represents clients at all stages of criminal proceedings and in cases concerning multi-jurisdictional proceedings. He is keen to provide advice to clients prior to charge and represents publicly funded and private clients.
He has built particular experience in the areas of extradition and mutual legal assistance, benefit fraud, firearms offences, violent offences and drugs-related offences. He has experience working with mentally ill clients and dealing with complex matters concerning fitness to plead.
He handles complex and high value fraud cases, often involving forfeiture and confiscation proceedings, and is formidable in defending against allegations of benefit fraud, whether at the interview stage or prosecutions by the Local Authority/DWP. He has an excellent record in securing alternative disposals to prosecution in benefit fraud cases.
As well as representing drivers alleged to have committed general motoring offences, Abbas also regularly represents PHV drivers alleged to be ‘touting for hire’.
Abbas advises families who have been bereaved and who wish to challenge a Coroner’s decision concerning the death, and acts for those who are involved in Inquest procedures, Judicial Reviews of Coroners' decisions, as well as other aspects of the Coronial process.

R v HK: An appeal to the Court of Appeal was pursued concerning the sentence of this youth with learning difficulties who was charged with burglary. The case was one of only 10 heard together by the Court of Appeal in which the Lord Chief Justice provided sentencing guidance for cases arising out of the 2011 London riots.
R v K & Others: Conspiracy to supply firearms to undercover police officers in North London’s largest undercover operation. This case involved analysis of a huge amount of video footage, cell site analysis and substantial legal arguments pertaining to abuse of process; specifically, entrapment.
R (SA) v HM Coroner for Bridgend (South Wales): Representing the family of the deceased in a Judicial Review of the Coroner’s decision to order an invasive post mortem based on arguments that the interference with the deceased’s body offended Convention rights, including the fundamental tenants of the religious beliefs of the family and the deceased. The case involved detailed consideration of the alternatives to an invasive post mortem, including the use of CT/MRI scans, toxicological analysis and external examination.
R v O & Others: Multi-handed £900k bank account fraud and confiscation proceedings.
R v B & G: Successfully represented the wife in ‘baby shaking’ allegations which included complex medical and legal arguments concerning causation.
R v G: Robust defence of a 70 year old man in historic sexual abuse allegations, involving use of expert evidence of false and transferred memories. The prosecution were forced to discontinue their case.
R v H: Conspiracy to supply drugs. The prosecution discontinued the case after substantial representations were made by Abbas concerning the defence of duress. The case involved the employment of digital forensic experts.
R v A: Successful defence of an MP alleged to have committed high value benefit fraud (undeclared properties, income and other capital). The case involved forensic analysis of bank accounts and other financial data, legal arguments concerning ‘ownership’ of capital, and instruction of benefit experts.
